Vern Streeter  |  Guest Speaker | April 12, 2026

Referenced Scripture:
Joshua 2, Matthew 1:5-6, Hebrews 10:31, James 2:25-26

Reflection Questions:
1. The story of Rahab is well known. She is famous. Did you learn anything new? How was the sermon on Joshua 2 impactful for you?

2. What difference does it make in your life that, like Rahab stated, “…the Lord your God, is God in heaven above and on earth below.” (Joshua 2:11)

3. Isn’t it interesting that Rahab is celebrated in the New Testament by Matthew, Hebrews, and James? (Matthew 1:5-6; Hebrews 11:31; James 2:25-26) Why do you think James uses Rahab as an example of “Faith without works is dead?”

4. Right now, are you hanging tightly to a rope that is being lowered by someone else – why and who is on the Rahab end of the rope?  And, who are you lowering – who is depending on you for their spiritual life? That’s a lot of responsibility. How can we help you stay strong for someone you care about?

5. Bonus discussion: Vern said Rahab did a bad thing but did the right thing. How is that possible? Can you think of other similar circumstances? Have you ever faced such an ethical dilemma?

6. A mind-bending morality-challenging deeper dive:
Ethicists offer three main views:
     A. The “Lie was sinful but used by God” view.
* Rahab did the right thing (protecting life)
* But used a wrong method (lying – a violation of the 9th commandment)
* God honored her faith despite moral imperfection.
This keeps moral absolutes intact.
     B. The “Higher moral law” view.
* Protecting life is more important that telling the truth.
This is called “graded absolutism.”
     C. The “Wartime ethics” view
* She lied in a time of war.
* Deception in war (like espionage) is not morally equivalent to everyday lying.
This is military resistance, not private morality.
Discuss!

7. From this, what do we learn about God and His relationship with us?
That’s all very interesting and worth discussing, but please don’t let it overshadow the call on your life to not “drop the rope” for the people depending on you…

Joshua 2: The Story Of Rahab

Journey Church

Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | April 5, 2026

Referenced Scripture:
Colossians 2:13-14, Philippians 3:8-21, John 20:19, 1 Corinthians 15:20, John 3:16-18

Reflection Questions:
1. What is your observation of the “cancel culture” that we live in today? How would you describe “cancel culture”? What are some examples you have seen of people today being cancelled? Would you say that cancelling people is fair or unfair? Explain your answer. How might it feel to be cancelled by the world around you?

2. Big Idea: Jesus did not come to cancel people, but to cancel sin.
Read Colossians 2:13-14, John 3:16-18
How does it feel to know that Jesus has cancelled your sin but will never cancel you? How can we know that Jesus will never cancel us? How does this change how we might respond to our failures in this life?

3. When you reflect on the resurrection of Jesus what gives you hope and encourages your heart?

4. Read Philippians 3:10-11
How have you experienced the power of the resurrection in your life? (ie. How has your life changed? How have you experienced a growing relationship with Jesus? How have you seen the power of Jesus at work in your life?)

5. Paul says that part of knowing Jesus is participating in the same kind of suffering that He experienced. What kind of suffering did Jesus experience in his life? Why can this be a comforting thought when we are experiencing pain and suffering and loss in our life? Why is it important to understand that that suffering is a normal part of knowing and walking with Jesus?

6. Read 1 Corinthians 15:20
Jesus’ physical resurrection is called the first fruits of our resurrection. What does this verse mean? Reflect on the reality that you will be given a physical body for all of eternity that will not age, decay, get sick, experience pain or loss, suffering, or death…What thoughts does this bring to mind? How does that hit you emotionally? What questions does it raise for you? What hope does this give us? Why?

Easter: Jesus Doesn’t Cancel People

Journey Church

Logan Holloman | Next Gen Pastor | March 29, 2026

Referenced Scripture:
Matthew 21:6-11, Acts 4:12

Reflection Questions:
1. When you hear that “Hosanna” means “save us,” what do you feel like you most need saving from right now—externally or internally?

2. What are some things you tend to look towards for security, identity, or relief (control, approval, success, relationships, etc.)?

3. Was there a moment in your life (like the story shared in the sermon) that shaped what you now “look to” for worth or validation?

4. How does the picture of Jesus entering on a donkey—humble, not forceful—challenge or reshape your expectations of God?

5. As we move toward Easter, what would it look like for you to “turn toward Jesus” in a real, practical way this week?

2. What is a disciple? What does it mean to make disciples? Does this command extend to followers of Jesus today? Why or why not? Explain.

3. What are your observations of the church today in making disciples? Does it seem that many followers of Jesus have disregarded this command? Explain. Can a person be a mature follower of Jesus and not make disciples?

4. What has been your experience of being discipled by others ? What has been your experience of discipling others? What has been encouraging to you? What has been challenging or frustrating?

5. What barriers have you experienced in trying to invest in the lives of other people? (Helping them learn to know and follow Jesus) How can a person overcome those barriers?

6. Bob mentioned that discipleship is… Relational… Intentional… Transformational… —How would you describe each of these words? Do you agree or disagree with this list? What would you add or change and why?

7. Whom could you move toward today to begin a relationship where you could help them know and follow Jesus? How might you approach them? What is your next step in doing that?

ALL-IN Followers of Jesus: Multiply Your Faith

Journey Church

Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | March 15, 2026

Referenced Scripture:

1 Peter 4:12, Hebrews 5:7-8, Romans 5:3-5, Hebrews 12:11, 2 Corinthians 1:3-7

Reflection Questions:

1. How are you experiencing suffering and pain in your life right now? How are you seeing people in your life experience suffering and pain?

2. We cannot read God’s favor or disfavor by assessing how troubled a person’s life is. True or False? Why?What does the Bible teach us about this statement? What have you learned from personal experience about this statement?

3. Why do some of us expect that God would/should spare His all-in followers from the suffering of this world?

4. What are some wrong beliefs or responses that can come from pain and suffering? What questions does suffering raise about God, about us, about our relationship with Him? What truths of Scripture do we need to keep in mind in order to counter these wrong beliefs and responses?

5. READ: 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

How are other believers intended to be an extension of God’s comfort to us in the midst of our pain and suffering? How have you seen God use other people to be a source of comfort for you? How have you been a source of comfort to others? Share some specific examples…

6. Why would isolation be detrimental to someone in the midst of suffering? Why can we tend toward isolation? How can we break through our tendency to isolate? What will that require of us?

7. Do you personally move toward people in suffering or tend to isolate? Why? Explain…

8. What specifically do we need from others in our suffering in order to experience comfort? What things from others can actually be unhelpful, even if offered with good motives?

9. What area of pain and suffering in your life do you need to share with someone? Who is someone in your life that needs your comfort and encouragement in the face of suffering and pain?

ALL-IN Followers of Jesus: Suffering

Journey Church

Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | March 8, 2026

Referenced Scripture:
Hebrews 3:7,15; 4:7, Luke 9:57-62, Philippians 3:12-14

Reflection Questions:

Read: Luke 9:57-62
1. What has been the most challenging thing you have experienced in trying to be an ALL IN follower of Jesus?

2. What are some examples from Scripture where people had to make difficult choices to be obedient and follow God/Jesus? What difficulties did they face? What made the choices challenging? Why do you think they were able to make the decisions that they did? Explain.

3. What have been some of the difficult decisions you have made in your life in order to say “yes” to following Jesus? What was the outcome of saying “yes”? Have you ever said “no” to some decisions to obey and follow Jesus? Share those stories. What was the cost of saying “no”?

4. Does Jesus promise that following him will always be comfortable and require no risk? Explain your answer. What does He promise if we are willing to follow Him and obey?

5. What are the places in your life where you find it most difficult to follow Jesus in obedience? Why do you think that is?

6. Why is it easy to say, “Yes, but first…” and put off obedience to someday in the future? How have you justified disobedience by putting off something you know that you should do or stop doing? Explain.

7. What might be potential areas of your life that you prioritize above Jesus? What are the costs to these misplaced priorities? What costs have you experienced in your life by not putting obedience to Jesus first?

Hebrews 3:7,15; 4:7
So, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts…"
8. What is one thing that you need to say “yes” to the Spirit TODAY, so that your heart does not become hard?

ALL-IN Followers of Jesus: No Excuses (But, first…)

Journey Church

Logan Holloman | Next Gen Pastor | March 1, 2026

Referenced Scripture:
Matthew 28:20, Luke 12:13-34, Exodus 16:16-20, Luke 11:2-4, 1 Timothy 6:6-19, Luke 16:13-15

Reflection Questions:
1. In what ways am I choosing to depend on God’s generosity for my felt need? And in what ways am I restricting God’s generosity by my own self sufficiency?

2. Is the way I relate to money more reflective to the American economy or God’s economy? What is one step, just one practical change, that I can make to live more generously in my relationship to money and possessions.

3. Stay committed to developing a personal rhythm of confession. Begin giving attention to what this practice of confession could look like in your everyday life, and let it lead you into greater freedom, honesty and forgiveness.

4. Choose generosity to counteract greed. Greed is taking more than we need for ourselves, regardless of how that affects others. This week consider where you can be generous. Ask yourself: What do I have more than enough of? And who could I share it with?

Reflection Questions:
1. What's one thing that stood out to you from the sermon and why?

3. What motivates you to protect the vulnerable? Can you share an experience of protecting the vulnerable that was meaningful to you?

4. What are Biblical examples of Jesus protecting the vulnerable?

5. Do you find that protecting the vulnerable comes to you naturally? Why or Why not? What things make it challenging for you?

6. Brian's focal point was that Jesus sought to bring justice to earth by protecting the vulnerable. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

7. Read Matthew 25:31-46. What differences do you see between how the sheep and the goats are described in the parable?

8. Are you naturally bent more like the sheep or the goats? What would it take in your life to serve more like the sheep than the goats?

9 What would the church look like if everyone took the sheeps posture of protecting the vulnerable or helping those in need?

10. Brian referenced the Good Samaritan (Luke 10) sacrificed his comfort, time and money to protect the vulnerable. Which of those is hardest for you to sacrifice and why? Which is easiest for you to sacrifice?
