1. Imagine you are standing in front of Jesus giving an account for how you managed the resources He gave you in this life: What thoughts/emotions/questions come to mind? What do you think Jesus might affirm about your management? (be specific). What do you think Jesus might critique about your management? (be specific).

2. What do you think it means that God owns everything I have? In what ways can we live counter to that idea. ie. what I have is “my money”? How would we live if we believed that God is the owner of all I have? Share some specific examples.

3. In all of the areas of management (below) rate yourself 1-5. Why did you give each number? Explain.
1- need help!! TO 5-crushing it!!
- Diligent Earner

4. What advantages can you see to aligning your life to the values of God’s Kingdom with your resources? What costs are there to ignoring God’s financial values? How can our culture promote financial principles that run counter to the values of God and His Kingdom?

5. Who could you process the content in the FreedUp App to help each other grow in managing God’s resources? Take time to reach out to them now and ask.

Does God grade on a curve?

Journey Church January 12, 2025 1:30 pm

Jim Keena | Guest Speaker | January 5, 2024

Referenced Scripture:
Acts 17:16-34, 1 Peter 3:15b

Reflection Questions:
1) In his sermon, Jim shared the story of calling his mother after the birth of their first child. Reflect on a moment when you had the chance to share good news with someone special. What was the good news? Was it easy to tell them? How did that experience make you feel?

2) Generally, sharing good news with others is easy. But is it easy for you to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others? If it’s not, why does it feel challenging for you?

3) In Acts 17:16-34, Luke recounts the story of the Apostle Paul’s visit to Athens. When he saw the city, we were told, “he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols” (Acts 17:16b). Why do you believe he was so distressed by the rampant idolatry?

4) When you look at American culture, do you see us as a nation “full of idols”? Tim Keller’s definition of idolatry helps answer that question. He writes, “What is an idol? It is anything more important to you than God, anything that absorbs your heart and imagination more than God, anything you seek to give you what only God can give.” (Counterfeit Gods, xvii) According to his definition, which idols do we see in ourselves and others as worshiping?

5) In Athens, Paul preached the gospel to three distinct groups of people in three separate locations: the Jews in the synagogue (17:17a), philosophers in the marketplace (17:17b-18), and intellectuals at the Areopagus (17:18-31). How did he adjust his approach without compromising the message of the gospel?

6) Who do you know with little or no background in the Bible or the gospel? How would you explain the gospel to them differently than someone from a church background?

7) Bob Pierce, the founder of World Vision, prayed to God, “Break my heart with the things that break Your heart.” What troubles your heart about your friends and our community? What specific needs do you notice? What do you believe God is urging you to do in response?

8) In the sermon, the analogy of a traffic light was used to illustrate the three different responses that those who heard Paul preach the gospel had to his message. Acts 17:32-34 states, “When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, (red light) but others said, “We want to hear you again on this subject.” (yellow light) 33 At that, Paul left the Council. 34 Some of the people became followers of Paul and believed. (green light). Why is it important to recognize that responses to the preaching of the gospel can vary widely, from mockery to curiosity and, hopefully, belief? What color is your “stoplight”?

9) Is there someone you think you should share the good news with this new year?

What’s your next step?

How Do We Tell The Good News In The New Year?

Journey Church January 5, 2025 1:25 pm

Brian Priebe | Executive Pastor | December 8, 2024

Referenced Scripture:
Exodus 15:20-21a, 2 Sam 6:14-16, Psalm 126:1-3, Luke 7:33-34, Genesis 14:18-20, Luke 19:5-8

Reflection Questions:
1.God commanded his people in Exodus 23 to celebrate 3 annual feasts of God's Provision. What are other instances in Scripture where you remember God's people celebrating God's Provision?

2. If we as Christians don't celebrate God's Provision... What are we missing out on?

3. Share your own experiences of celebration in your life. Think of times that led to making a joyful noise, times of laughter, times of sharing a meal with others and times that led to generosity.

4. Share with your group the areas of your life where you have seen God's hand providing.

5. Spend a generous amount of time in prayer (alone or in a group). Focus on thanking God for the areas of your life where you see his provision.

Holiday Goodness: Celebrate God Times

Journey Church December 11, 2024 4:16 pm

Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | November 24, 2024

Referenced Scripture: Matthew 7:13-27, Mark 1:14-15, Ephesians 5:15-18, Galatians 5:25

Reflection Questions:

1. How can someone know if they are genuinely a follower of Jesus? (on the Narrow road or the Wide road).

2. According to the Sermon on the Mount, what are some fruit(s) that we should expect in our lives as we become more deeply rooted in Jesus?

3. Read Matthew 7:21-23
- 21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
-What thoughts/emotions/questions does this text bring up for you? What makes this text potentially unsettling?

4. How can it be possible to have apparent fruit in our lives when we are not truly rooted in Jesus? How is it that we can live self deception?

5. How can we know for sure that we are doing the will of the Father? How can we learn to hear and respond to the voice of God in our life?

6. How have you experienced God speaking to you through the Holy Spirit?

7. Read Galatians 5:25
-Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
-What is the next step that the Spirit is asking you to take right now?

The Narrow Road

Journey Church November 24, 2024 3:06 pm

Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | November 17, 2024

Referenced Scripture: Matthew 7:7-11, Matthew 6:6, Revelation 3:20, Luke 11:13, Revelation 5:8, Psalm 56:8, Mark 14:32-36

Reflection Questions:
1. What is one thing that stuck out to you from the sermon?

2. How have you experienced the challenge of unanswered prayer in your life? What thoughts or emotions did this create in you?

3. What are some wrong beliefs we can have about God or about ourselves when our prayers seem to go unanswered?

4. What makes persisting in prayer difficult for you? Are there areas where you would say you have given up? Explain. What should motivate us to persevere and persist in asking, seeking, and knocking?

5. How does the reality that God collects our prayers and our tears change the way we view God? How does it change the way we view prayer?

6. Revelation 5:8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.

7. Psalm 56:8 (NLT) You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.

8. The goal of prayer is for us experience God’s PRESENCE rather than just receive God’s PRESENTS. Agree or Disagree? Why?

9. What is one way you can take a next step in growth in your prayer life today?
